One of the first NEWFELPRO's researchers in the incoming scheme, Vera Boronenko, is implementing her project Rethinking Territory Development in Global Comparative Researches (Rethink Development). Vera, who has a PhD in economy and who is, at the moment, the only NEWFELPRO researcher with a project in the research area of economy, is at the University of Rijeka where she is conducting her two year long research. Her research is focused on territory development as she questions the hypothesis within pluralistic (qualitative) paradigm of territory development: there are many types (qualities) of TD in the world, many self-reliant “developments”, not one quantitative path of development as it is within evolutionary (quantitative) paradigm. You can read more about her project at the following
link.
Vera has presented her project to the public by conducting a lecture at the Jean Monnet EFRI Summer School 2014 titled „
Stages of Economic Development of the EU Countries“. She also held a presentation „
Consequences of joining the EU for economic performance of countries internal regions” at the international scientific conference “Contemporary Local Economic Development Issues” organized by the Centre of Local Economic Development (CLER) in Rijeka. At the 10th International Conference „Economic Integrations, Competition and Cooperation: Accession of the Western Balkan Region to the European Union” organized by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Rijeka (EFRI) she held a presentation titled
„
Rethinking Territory Development and Integration in the Global World”.
She has also published articles based on her current research:

Overall, Vera has developed an exceptionally good cooperation with her scientist in charge, Dr. Drezgić, and her colleagues from the Faculty of Economics. She is currently preparing case studies and articles for publishing along with working out the website
Global Rating of Territory Development.
